| Only Women Bleed |
Alice Cooper |
| Album: Welcome to My Nightmare |
Year: 1975 |
| Dick Wagner and Gil Markle became fast friends in the late seventies; Gil with his colorful rock 'n' roll recording studio in the hills of central Massachusetts; Dick with his mesmerizing electric guitar and the most refined studio production chops in the record industry as it then existed. Their laughter would keep others awake at night. A few years earlier, Dick had a major hit with Alice Cooper called Only Women Bleed, playable here. It has since been covered by no fewer than 25 other recording artists. |

Andy Pratt |
| Album: Andy Pratt |
Year: 1972 |
| This 1972 recording marked the finest hour of Aengus Studios, co-owned by the brilliant (and now deceased) Bill Riseman. In the years to follow, much of the hardware technology developed by Aengus, and many of its staff, migrated to Long View Farm in North Brookfield. Jesse Henderson would become Long View's Chief Engineer and the master of its custom-built Aengus recording console, through which all of the early work of the Farm would flow. It's an Aengus console that you hear on this terrific tune by Andy Pratt. |

Axes |
| Album: LVF LP in restoration process |
Year: 1982 |
| Signed by Hernando Courtright of A&M Records, Axes came to Long View Farm in 1982 to record their first LP. Jesse Henderson engineered. Because of problems with their manager, one J. D. Worthington (see below), the album never got released. The band changed its name to Mass two years later, and then to Mother Train several years later still. "J. D. Worthington" turned out to be an alias of Ronald Pasqualino, who later surfaced under other aliases in a twenty-year-long career as a thief, fraudster, and as a child molestor who caused runaway boys to appear in pornographic films depicting Boys Gone Wild. Wanted in 11 states and in Canada, Pasqualino was arrested in Manchester, New Hampshire in 2005, and died in police custody several months later. |

Carmen |
| Album: The Gypsies |
Year: 1975 |
Just off the road with Jethro Tull, and about to go out again opening for The Rolling Stones, the Flamenco-Rock band Carmen settled into Long View Farm in early 1975 to record their third album in a trilogy presentation, The Gypsies.
Afflicted by terrible misfortune during their stay, including financial mismanagement from afar, and the crushing of their drummer Paul Fenton's kick-drum leg by a horse, the group (led by the talented David Clark Allen) disbanded and disappeared. Except for the magnificent bass player John Glascock, who stayed on at the farm for months drinking beer and shooting rats with a bow and arrow. He eventually answered a call from Ian Anderson to join Jethro Tull, but died on a hospital operating table in 1979. |

Connie Gates |
| Album: Thirties Retrospective |
Year: 1963 |
She met her husband, Gilbert J. Markle, an NBC radio engineer, as he raised the RCA 44DX mike for her to sing. Connie was known as "the girl without a theme song". She believed that if fans couldn't remember her without a theme, they wouldn't remember her anyway.
A huge popularizer of songs during the nineteen-thirties, Connie Gates (Markle) re-recorded a half-dozen of her favorite tunes 30 years later, accompanied by pianist Ed Otley. |

| Album: The Paxton Tapes |
Year: 1972 |
| Don't blame the talented Dave Webster for this. It was Gil Markle, playing around on the coffee table with the six balls, suspended on strings, which seemed to have a nice sound. David overdubbed the courageous guitar licks, while the balls slowed, and then slowed some more. |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(CANNES, FRANCE) GIL MARKLE, AMERICAN RECORD PRODUCER IN ATTENDANCE AT M.I.D.E.M., HAS DENIED THAT THERE ARE ANY POLITICAL MOTIVES OR INSINUATIONS BEHIND THE TUNE "THIRD WORLD BLUES," A RECENT RELEASE BY DAVID REID ON THE LONG VIEW LABEL.
RECENT AIRPLAY OF THE TUNE IN THE WINDWARD ISLANDS HAD RESULTED IN SPECULATION BY FUN-LOVING DJS THAT THIS IS AN 'APARTHEID NOVELTY SINGLE' DESIGNED TO TAUNT AND DEMORALIZE THIRD WORLD POPULATIONS FROM ACROSS HOSTILE WESTERN BORDERS.
"NONSENSE," MARKLE INSISTS. "DAVID REID IS A POP ACT. 'THIRD WORLD BLUES' IS A POP TUNE. THE THEME JUST HAPPENS TO BE TOPICAL AND TROPICAL AT THE SAME TIME. I CAN INTRODUCE YOU TO CITIZENS OF THE THIRD WORLD WHO LOVE THE SONG."

Frankie Atwell (Wildfire) |
| Album: Single |
Year: 1983 |
| Wildfire was the production vehicle for the talented Oliver Chapman, who was quick to involve other Port-of-Spain artists, such as Frankie Atwell. The Caribbean was burning with West Indian music in the eighties, much of recorded in the dock-side studios of the capital city of Trinidad & Tobago. Ask Markle about it, and about the influence it wielded 2000 miles north in the mix sessions at Long View Farm, in North Brookfield. |

Year: 1976 |
| The two Scotsmen who came to the door in 1974, asking to rehearse and demo their tunes, turned out to be among the most prolific and successful songwriters of the sixties and the seventies: Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle. Ignorant of and oblivious to their reputations, we treated them like anybody else. Two years later, in 1976, these demo tunes turned up on the A&M LP Breakaway, which charted in the UK, together with a special "thank you" to Long View staffers Geoff Myers and John Farrell. |
